Problem
Many adults struggle to stay motivated to maintain a consistent fitness routine and often cite a lack of time and confidence as key barriers. At the same time, financial literacy and planning for the future can feel overwhelming. Despite the abundance of reward-based credit cards, a large portion of users let their rewards go unused or regret their redemptions. This presents an opportunity to build a platform that addresses two goals simultaneously: encouraging physical activity while helping users build healthier financial habits.
Money-conscious adults and fitness enthusiasts need a way to earn financial rewards by living an active lifestyle because they are looking for motivation to stay consistent in the gym while also investing in their financial future.
Context
Team
This was an individual project designed and executed solo, with peer feedback incorporated throughout the process.
Platform
The purpose of this project was to create a seamless experience using responsive design. The final submission include multi-platform design across:
Desktop: For visualizing deeper financial insights through charts and data
Mobile: For quick stat checking and progress tracking with a friendly, motivating UI
Tablet: A hybrid approach that blends mobile’s inviting interface with desktop’s analytical depth
Wearables: Seamless workout integration via Apple Watch to track milestones, workouts, and reward triggers
Constraints
Limited to self-directed design and user testing due to the nature of a class-based assignment
Feedback was received asynchronously via forums and peer conversations, not formal user testing
Role
I led the full product design process: research, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, and iteration. Tools used included Mockup for wireframing and Figma for UI design and prototyping.
Process
The design process began with research into consumer behavior around rewards credit cards and fitness habits. I identified a clear intersection between financial incentives and health-related motivation.
I created user goals and primary platform objectives for each device type, focusing on accessibility, usability, and consistent data representation. A features list and flowchart guided the app’s information architecture and experience automation.
Wireframes and early UI designs were created in Figma, followed by rounds of feedback:
Feedback pointed to a cluttered interface with too many colors and poor hierarchy.
Suggestions included following the 60-30-10 color rule, increasing text readability, and better onboarding for platform clarity.
I iterated by refining the visual hierarchy, limiting the color palette, improving spacing, and proposing an onboarding experience that better communicates the platform’s dual value proposition.
Solution
The final solution is a multi-platform experience that encourages fitness and financial health simultaneously:
Automatic Rewards: Earn cash by working out; money deposits directly into a high-yield savings account
Integrated Wearables: Track workouts and activity milestones via Apple Watch for frictionless participation
Motivational Design: Clean, color-cohesive interface with spaced content and motivational feedback
Smart Notifications: Activity nudges and weekly reward recaps help users stay engaged
Onboarding Experience: Introduced to clarify the platform’s core benefit—turning healthy habits into financial gain
Monetization strategies were also considered, including in-app purchases, premium features, and reward partnerships.
Impact
The redesigned app concept successfully bridges two key goals for users: staying motivated to exercise and building long-term financial habits. Visual design improvements addressed usability concerns, resulting in a modern, sleek interface that guides users through their wellness and savings journeys intuitively.
User feedback validated the app’s structure and usability, while highlighting key visual adjustments that were implemented to enhance clarity and focus. The added onboarding experience strengthens the user’s understanding of how fitness directly powers their financial growth—solidifying the value proposition and long-term user engagement.
